One of my favorite young chefs is hanging out at The Café today, my daughter-in-law, Lindsay! I have the feeling she'll be on your favorite list too after you try her fabulous turkey burgers.

We love dinner on the grill, especially when the weather is nice. When Chris mentioned she had some wonderful brioche buns, I knew these turkey burgers would be ideal on them. I've been making these for a few years and they've become a house favorite. They are moist and flavorful thanks to the barbecue sauce. The turkey also provides a lean alternative to beef burgers. These go perfect with baked sweet potato fries. ~ Lindsay

Smokey Barbecue Turkey Burgers with Caramelized Onions
Ingredients for the burgers:
1 pound ground turkey
2 tablespoons barbecue sauce, plus more for serving (we love Sweet Baby Rays!)
2 tablespoons dry bread crumbs (I used Panko)
2 teaspoons mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon chili powder
2 cloves minced garlic
2 tablespoons minced onion
¼ teaspoon salt
Directions for the burgers:
1. Mix together all ingredients. Divide mixture into 4 equal portions and form into patties.
2. Heat the grill to medium/ medium-high heat. Grill on one side for about 4 minutes or until the outside edges are browned. Flip over and cook for an additional 2 minutes, then top with cheese. Cook for 1-2 more minutes until the cheese melts. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Ingredients for serving:
Buttery Brioche Sandwich Rolls or hamburger buns
barbecue sauce
cheese of your choice ( I used Provolone)
arugula
caramelized onions

Hey Chris any suggestions that you can help me with. The burgers are great. I keep having them stick to the grill grates. Almost like burnt grill marks. Tough to turn over. I spray the grates. Preheat grill and then put on grill. Same sticking problem all the time. Any suggestions would be wonderful. Thank you

I'm not the grilling expert here but this is what I see Scott do. Preheat the grill, when it's really hot he cleans it within an inch of it's life with a wire brush. Then, just before putting the burgers on, he (carefully, with the spray held away from the fire as it can flare up a bit) he sprays the grates. The only other thing I can think of, is that your meat is so lean it sticks. You could try adding just a bit of oil to your mixture. Hope this helps 🙂

We love these so much. I use ground chicken instead of turkey. My husband is not a fan of turkey. They came out great. I use Perdue regular ground not exta lean. We eat them so much that I know freeze them to have them on hand. Thanks Chris

I made these turkey burgers along with the buttery brioche rolls. They both were delicious. This might become my main turkey burger recipe and who could buy another roll after eating the brioche. Thanks.

I just love turkey burgers. After getting food poisoning from a batch 2 years ago I haven't dared try them again. These are just the thing I need to get me back on the turkey band wagon.

a Dijon or a brown mustard works great!

Was wondering what kind of mustard? Yellow or a brown or a dry mustard.

I love it when Lindsay 'guest posts,' especially when I know it's a combined effort (still loving the look of those buns).
The turkey burgers look amazing on their own, but I'm a huge fan of caramelized onions. They look fantastic.

It is way to early in the morning to want this burger. Then again, maybe not!

Love Turkey Burgers and I love Lindsay's recipes! You both are such wonderful cooks!! The Turkey Burger looks fantastic!!
The Café Sucré Farine says
Vicki, we just spray the grill grates before cooking and this seems to eliminate the problem of sticking.

I love to make turkey burgers especially since I can eat them without feeling guilty. I like that these have Panko in them rather than bread crumbs. With these additional ingredients I'm sure they have great flavor.
I always spray mine with Non-stick spray on both sides otherwise I find they stick - dont you? I will have to try your recipe the next time I make some. Thanks for sharing.
