I love to venture out on these lovely spring days; the clear blue skies cheerfully adorned with cottony white clouds. The birds seem to sing more sweetly; somehow understanding that the harsh winter has finally retreated. Gentle breezes, not too hot or cold feel like like a whisper and a zillion shades of green greet my thirsty eyes. It might sound funny to some but the feeling that spring evokes in me is, in a small way, similar to the aftermath of birthing my children. I remember looking at both of my newborn babies, with tears of joy, and thinking "I'd do it all over again, it was worth every smidgen of pain". On these beautiful spring days, as I'm sitting on the porch or driving in the car and I gaze at the vast array of blooms and buds, it makes me think that even this unusually long, cold winter was totally worth it (please remind me of this next January and February). I could go on and on about all the things I love about spring and I'm quite sure you probably have a long list of favorites too. Guess what's quite near the top of my list? Oh, I think you cheated and read the title of this post already! Yes, it is Strawberries - Sweet and Savory! I know it's not true everywhere, but here in North Carolina, strawberry stands and "pick your own" signs will be popping up here, there and everywhere in the next week or two. And guess who's excited? Even if you have another month or more before the sweet red jewels ripen in your part of the world, I thought I'd help get you prepared by sharing a few of our favorite Strawberries - Sweet and Savory recipes. Check them out over at PARADE Magazine. Oh, and you can be sure they'll be more new recipes as the season evolves ..........
