If you enjoy cooking and/or delicious food, yet find yourself with a busy lifestyle, Terra’s Kitchen is a wonderful option.
“There’s never a dull meal at your house!”
That’s a comment a sweet friend made a few days ago.
“Not true”, I thought to myself.
My husband would attest to the fact that there are days that I don’t have a clue, late in the afternoon, regarding “What’s for dinner?”. Don’t get me wrong, I love to cook – trying, testing and creating new recipes is my favorite thing to do. But I have busy days, just like everyone else, and sometimes, dinner is just not on my radar.
When I was offered the opportunity to try out Terra’s Kitchen, I was a skeptical. Meals delivered to your door? Hmmmm…? I was curious at the same time though, so I clicked on over to their website.
There were so many interesting descriptions. Farm-to-front-door delivery of fresh, seasonal ingredients. Everything arrives pre-portioned and pre-prepped for skillet ready meals. Chef designed recipes. Each meal can be prepared in 30 minutes or less. I have to admit, I was intrigued. I was also intrigued with all the beautiful and delicious-looking meal options they offer on their website. Take a peek and see what I mean!
Some of the menu choices included things like Grilled Sirloin, Dijon Shallot Smear & Asparagus Salad, Grilled Lamb with Pan-Roasted Asparagus, Olives & Tomatoes, Blackened Tilapia Tacos with Mango Blueberry Salsa, and Date Night Dinner. There are lots more, but those were a few that struck my fancy. How fun, interesting and gourmet sounding!
But really, how good can food be that’s delivered to your doorstep? And how does it stay fresh? Would I have to be home all day in order to receive it? It’s still officially spring, but here in North Carolina, things have begun to get quite steamy. What would happen to all the fresh produce that was included with each meal? Terra’s Kitchen had the answer. I read that the meal ingredients would stay cold and fresh till at least 9 p.m. on the day of delivery because of the “container” that it would arrive in. Hmmm, I didn’t really understand how this would work, but I liked what I read about this innovative company, and decided to give them a try.
I was able to pick three complimentary meals, and that was the most difficult (but fun!) aspect of the whole process. There were so many fabulous looking choices. In the end, I decided on the Grilled Lamb with Pan-Roasted Asparagus, Olives & Tomatoes (pictured directly above), the Big Island Steak Bowl (featured in the video below) and the Happy Chicken Salad bowl (not pictured, but delicious with grilled chicken, red quinoa, spinach, mango and a wonderful scallion mint dressing).
The meals arrived early in the afternoon, and though we weren’t home, everything was fresh and cold as promised when we opened the box a few hours later.
What a cool container! It’s about the size of a little dorm refrigerator with lots of shelves and little ice blocks. The ingredients were nicely packaged with labels indicating which recipe each ingredient went with. Everything is included, down to the fresh herbs and dry spices necessary for preparing each meal.
There was also a recipe card for each meal with simple instructions and pictures detailing how to prepare the dinners. Each one in less than 30 minutes!
Is the “less than 30 minutes” part true? Yup, when the ingredients are all prepped and ready for you to cook, it’s easy to throw a meal together in half an hour – start to finish!
How did we like the meals? Honestly, I was quite impressed. The grilled lamb dinner was fantastic – healthy, beautiful and the portions were generous. Scott and I sat on the deck and enjoyed a glass of wine with dinner. Talk about a super easy, low stress, gourmet meal!
The steak with charred pineapple was simple to prepare, light and delicious. And the Happy Chicken Salad bowl? Let’s just say it makes me happy thinking about it, fresh, flavorful, and pretty as a picture.
You might be wondering what in the world would you do with that little refrigerator? Terra’s Kitchen makes that so simple and so eco-friendly. All you do is peel off the label and set the box outside your door. The next day it’s picked and whisked away to be used again. And again. These little fridges can be used up to a 100 times! I love that Terra’s Kitchen is very conscious of reducing our impact on the environment.
Delivered meals like this aren’t for everyone, but if you enjoy cooking and/or delicious food, yet find yourself with a busy lifestyle, Terra’s Kitchen is a wonderful option. How nice would it be to come home from work and have dinner all prepped? All that’s left for you is to act all “cheffy” and within 30 minutes, create an amazing aroma to entice everyone to the table.
The meals would also be ideal if you’re entertaining dinner guests on a tight time budget. The dinners are quick, easy, healthy, and the pictures on the recipe card give great ideas for presentation. Oh, and speaking of presentation, we made a little video to showcase the Big Island Steak Bowl. You’ll be sure to get lots of ooohs and aaahs when you bring this one to the table!
