Preserving Avocados - Pickling and other tips on extending the shelf life of the wonderful avocado.

Hello ..........? Anyone out there as crazy about avocados as we are here at The Café? I thought so! I know there may be some folks who aren't avocado fans, but it certainly seems they're in the minority. To me, avocados transform an ordinary salad or sandwich into something  special and crazy-delicious.

Preserving Avocados - Pickling and other tips on extending the shelf life of the wonderful avocado.

Every time I create a new avocado recipe, it's extremely well received here at The Café and also on Facebook, Google+, Twitter as well as on my Pinterest boards. I actually have an entire Pinterest board dedicated just to avocados. So when my friends at The California Avocado Commission asked if I would do a guest post on their delightful blog, The Scoop, I was thrilled.

It seems that lots of people are interested in how to preserve avocados and help them last longer, so that was my assignment for the guest post. Check out all the fun and delicious things we do here at The Café to keep those delicious avocados in our daily menus. Here's The Scoop!

  1. Avocado and banana smoothie, is what we're crazy about here in my house, I sometimes use it in desserts like cakes, but not in salads!
It was fun reading your post 🙂

  2. The only issue I can see is having enough avos around long enough to preserve!! 😉
In all seriousness though, an excellent post!

  3. Congrats on the guest posting, Chris! I love love avocados and I'm so excited to try pickling avocados. You're a genius.

  4. Very nice guest post - your love of avocados shines! And all your recipes sound great.

  5. Love the suggestions for how to preserve avocados! Never thought to do that -- whenever we need some, we just head to the store. Great post -- thanks.

  6. I have a baby avocado lover in my house too! I'll have to save your recipes for a little while but I'm sure he will love them soon!

  7. I LOVE LOVE avocados. Bought 10 pcs yesterday and froze a couple of them. Salads taste so GOOD with avocado yogurt dressing and my husband doesn't even mind the colour GREEN :on his dinner plate :-))

  8. Wonderful tips Chris and the recipes look bright and fresh and just like summer. Blessings, Catherine

  9. Great tips... and avocado recipes as well, Chris! They are the ones who should be honored to have you guest-posting for them.

  10. I wish I could like them. I've tried. My mother tried to get me to eat them, and I married a native Californian, and one of my best friends owned an avocado farm before he retired. I really want to like them, but I just can't. My 2 year old granddaughter eats them and I turn the color of the avocado and have to leave the room. If I order "no guacamole" at a Mexican restaurant and they mistakenly put it on my plate, I ask them to take it away and bring me a clean plate. I know they are popular now and many people are gaga, but I'm afraid I just gag. See you later, when there's no green goo waiting here, LOL!

Also, would you possibly consider making your font darker? It's very hard to read with mature eyes. It's stylish, but difficult to see well. I'm going to lose the sight in one eye over the next year or so (my optic nerve is dying in that eye), and it will become impossible for me then, but I enjoy your blog so much that I'd hate to give it up. Thank you for considering it!

    1. Hi Barbara, you make me laugh about the green goo. 🙂 Don't worry, we'll be posting about lots of other things in a addition to avocados 🙂 It sounds like you have tried. I know there are certain things that I don't like either.
Thanks for you insight about the font. So sorry about you visual problems, I know that must be really hard to deal with. I will look into making the font a bit darker.
