No need for ho-hum or boring meals when those cool winds blow! Check out our collection of easy, unique recipe twists on an iconic round-the-world favorite, tomato soup!

I don't want to sound sacrilegious or unpatriotic, but growing up, I was never a fan of tomato soup. I know, I know it's the All-American soup of choice and as well as an international favorite. But as a child, I had a limited, picky palate and (to my defense) the only familiar rendition of this soup was the condensed stuff in the red and white can.

Fast forward many years (with thankfully, more developed, adventuresome taste buds), I was shocked with my first spoonful of "real" tomato soup... so delicious!

I've been "running" with a variety of tomato soup recipes ever since. In fact, I was kind of shocked myself when I checked how many unique recipes we have in the Café archives. As you'll see from the recipes below, tomatoes are a blank palate and can pair beautifully with so many other ingredients and flavors. Check out some of our favorites!

Thought for the day:

"Look, He is coming with the clouds,"
    and "every eye will see Him,
even those who pierced Him";
    and all peoples on earth "will mourn because of Him."
So shall it be! Amen.
"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God,

"Who is, and Who was, and Who is to come, the Almighty.

These organizations are helping around the clock with the ongoing restoration of our mountain communities post Hurricane Helene:

  • Samaritan's Purse - mobilizing staff and equipment and has enlisted thousands of volunteers to provide emergency aid to victims of Helene in our area and throughout the Southeast. I love that they often stay in the area after other relief organizations have left to helprebuild or restore houses for needy families.
  • Biltmore Church - this is our church and they are super involved with reaching out to Western North Carolina communities whenever there are needs.
  • Valley Hope Church - is located right in Swannanoa and is offering food, water and manpower to the community.
  • Manna Food Bank - our local food bank, providing food, water and volunteers to help with restoration efforts. By the way, their main headquarters received a direct hit, as it was down by the Swannanoa River in east Asheville.

  8. Hello Chris and Scott, Thank you so much for your update post today and glad to hear you found a safe place to stay near your daughter, while your community literally digs itself out from all the horrendous destruction of Hurricane Helene. It is one thing to watch it on tv but I can't imagine the horror of living through it and now the aftermath of rebuilding. It sounds like you are in a fabulous close net community, which I am sure is comforting. I live in Calgary Alberta so hurricanes virtually never occur here so its hard to totally understand what its like. Thank you for such a wonderful blog, always great recipes and photography, I am so glad I found your site. All the best over the next few weeks for you , your community and a special hug for Scott as he goes through his treatments.

  17. I am so sorry for these communities. I live in southwest Virginia and this area suffered from the storm as well. However, most of the power has been restored and clean up has begun in areas hit the hardest. I am thankful for the many donations and time that is being offered to those in need. May our God bless us with more compassion for these needy people, especially the children.
