Incredibly delicious, this Asian Honey-Sesame Salad Dressing goes so well with a myriad of salad ingredients and makes an amazing drizzling sauce.
This Asian Honey-Sesame Salad Dressing is at the very top of my obsession list right now. It's sweet, and a bit salty and spicy, all at the same time.

Obsessed. Merriam Webster defines this as "to haunt or excessively preoccupy the mind of". Do you ever have this problem? I suffer from it quite often and it usually has to do with some new recipe I'm developing and can't get my mind off of. And so my poor husband, Scott will have to endure whatever it is again and again... and again! Till I get it just right. He's very patient with me and my obsession problem.
When I was deciding what to call it, I thought about Asian Honey-Sesame-Poppyseed-Soy-Ginger-Brown Sugar Salad Dressing or Best-Most-Amazing-Goes-So-Well-with-EVERYTHING Salad Dressing, but neither of those seemed very search engine friendly, so I settled for Asian Honey-Sesame Salad Dressing. I do have to say though, those other names might give you a little better picture of my latest obsession.
It's true, it does go very well with so many different salad ingredients. I've served it tossed with field greens, arugula, Romaine, and butter lettuces. It's also fabulous with kale, cabbage, peaches, tomatoes, mangoes, nectarines, avocados, oranges, asparagus, green beans, really, just about everything!

Besides using this Asian Honey-Sesame Salad Dressing on salads, it also makes a great drizzling sauce for grilled chicken, shrimp, pork or steak. One evening, I brushed some salmon filets with the dressing and pan-seared them. Then I drizzled the filets with a bit more dressing just before serving - it made a delicious dinner entree.

Oh, are you ready for one more idea? Add a spoonful or two to a scoop of everyday mayo and you have a delicious, Asian-flavored sandwich spread that will transform a plain-Jane sandwich to something quite heavenly!
Try it, I have a feeling you too may become majorly obsessed - probably before you even finish your first salad. I know this yummy dressing will definitely be a frequent flyer in my refrigerator.

P.S. This Asian Honey-Sesame Salad Dressing is wonderful at anytime of year. During the summer months we're also obsessed with this Sweet Basil Vinaigrette. It's honestly, to die for!

Hi Chris,
This is definitely one of your best dressing recipes. We have been making a rainbow salad mix and changing the topping by the varying proteins (chicken, fish, tofu, cashews). It is compatible with so many combinations. Everyone that's tried it has liked it so much.
That's great, Tulsi! Thanks for letting us know!
This sounds so very good!
I can't have whole seeds (bowel issues) but I love their taste so I usually grind any seeds I want to use in my recipes, do you think this would work if I ground up the seeds and then added them to the rest of the ingredients. I realize the visuals will be different but what about the consistency?
thanks for any ideas you might have.
Claudia
Hi Claudia, I think it will work fine to grind the seeds. If the dressing is too thick, just thin it with a bit of water.
Best Asian dressing I’ve found-thank you for this recipe!!! We love it!
Yay! Thanks, Laura, so happy you enjoyed it!
Love your recipes. As far as this dressing can I use a filter to remove the seeds
after having it set for awhile as both my husband and I have divitriculitis and we have to be very careful about seeds. Or what would you suggest as I want to make the chicken curry noodle salad.
Yes, that would be fine, Patty. Next time you can just leave them out.
Oops, sorry. Wrong recipe. I meant the question for the Asian Chicken Coconut salad.
I knew that đź’•
This sounds fabulous. Making it now. The recipe calls for fresh pasta but I only have dry angel hair. How many ounces should I cook? I love ALL of your recipes!
Hi Jan, thanks so much! I usually figure 2 ounces of dry pasta per person. So for this recipe, I would use 12 ounces. If you have big pasta lovers, just do the whole 1 pound package. Enjoy!
Hi, just wondering if you have ever frozen the dressing for use at another time? PS Thanks so much for amazing recipes! Love your site 🙂
Hi Elissa, I haven't frozen it because it never lasts that long. But I think you could. Just shake it really well after it's thawed.
Really delicious salad dressing. This will be a new favorite for us. Plan to make your ramen noodle crunchy topping recipe also.
Thanks so much, Vicky!
I made this Salad Dressing for the second time now. Absolutely love it!I didn't have Poppy Seed and Sirasha. But its still so flavourful.
Yay! So happy you enjoyed it, Meiling!
Just found this recipe. Used as a marinade for baked mushrooms.
Delicious!
Awesome! Thanks for letting us know, Lou!
Very very good. I love the suggestion of adding peanut butter powder to make it a bit more tangy. Thanks so much! Delicious!
Thanks, Michele! So happy you enjoyed this dressing.
I make so many new recipes all the time that I'd kind of forgotten about this gem. Now that you've reminded me, I'm going to make a batch for our next salad!
Made this tonight, is very nice. Added a dollop of miso and next time might use less honey - but blended it all in the bullet (sans poppy seeds, didn't have any) and it became a nicely thick pourable salad dressing. Looking forward to seeing how it mellows together by tomorrow.
Thanks Linda, so happy you enjoyed it!
Great dressing with great flavor! Added just a touch of lemon juice to brighten. Have to agree with Cyndi tho'. Way too much sesame seed and poppy seed. I cut those to just 1 tsp ea...perfect for us! Thanks for sharing this recipe. Will make often!
Thank Amy.
omg! insanely delish!
So happy you enjoyed it Deb! We love it too 🙂
OMG insanely delish!!!
Great taste but too many poppy and sesame seeds.......almost had to chew the dressing.
Interesting, I've never had that problem, nor has anyone else who tried it. Could you possibly have measured wrong?
I really loved the flavor of the dressing. I'm on a low carb diet and found it sweet enough with just the honey. I definitely wouldn't add the poppy seeds next time though and would start with just 1T of sesame seeds. All I could feel was a bunch of seeds in my teeth. That being said, thank you for all of the wonderful recipes you post!
Thanks, Kelly.
Just made this dressing for a lunch salad and it is really nice. Other salad dressings on your site are on my list try. Again thank you for sharing.
I was wondering what the nutritional information was on this dressing. I can't seem to find nutrition information.
Hi Francine, Sorry, I don't have that info but it's easy to plug it into My Fitness Pal. Here is the link:https://www.myfitnesspal.com
So I asked my husband to search 'The Pinterest' to find a good recipe for an Asian Vinaigrette type dressing. Apparently I should let him look for all my recipes because OMG this dressing is AMAZING! Im literally addicted to it. Its been lovingly placed in my recipe cards at home. Also, you're right, anything. This dressing goes with anything. We had a rice buddha bowl tonight with a few different lettuces including kale, arugula, red romaine, spinach and nappa cabbage and julienned carrots, tomatoes, green peppers, green onions, avocado and smoked tofu. I just made my homes new favorite dish. Just Amazing. Now I need to search the rest of your site and hopefully find more little gems like this! Thank you for sharing!
I keep coming back to that dressing too Meshia, it's definitely a favorite at our house as well!
I don't often leave comments on recipes I've tried, but I just had to say how much I love this dressing! I actually don't add any of the sweeteners, but it's still tangy and sweet. I need to start making double batches now because we use it up too fast! Thank you for sharing!
Katie, we're so glad you enjoyed the dressing! We love it too! Thanks for your encouraging comments and welcome to The Café!
I made this dressing today to top my Asian salmon salad. It was delicious! I love that I know what's in it (no preservatives), and that I had every ingredient in my pantry or fridge already! It's a keeper!
So glad you enjoyed it Ericka. We've got lots of dressing in our archives, so feel free to explore!
How long will this salad dressing keep? 1 1/2 cups is a lot for two people over a few days. Will it keep 2weeks? How long do you think?
Hi Anne,
It will definitely keep for a week to 10 days. It never lasts longer than that around here 🙂
Hi Scott & Chris,
Have been trying to 're-create' - and improve upon - a ready-made Asian-inspired salad I sometimes pick up at the grocer's when I'm feeling lazy. This dressing does the trick (X 100) & puts the deli version to shame. Sooo good.
I made a cabbage/kale/carrot/pepper/sprout salad and we also put the dressing onto our Sockeye before grilling.
Insanely tasty dinner.
At 40-something I'm stubbornly old-school, and prefer to put my recipes onto paper and into a folder; naturally this one will be stained and dog-eared before long.
Thanks!
Thanks for letting us know Sharon. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
question for you. How long can you store this dressing in the fridge for? no more than a week i would assume seeing we r using fresh garlic..
Yes, a week is as long as I would store this.
I just made this and its amaaaaazing, better than anything store bought. I'm slathering some salmon with this tonight for dinner and I can't wait.
This salad dressing is so good, I could just eat it by the spoonful. I have been looking for a recipe for a good Asian dressing for a while. The one's that I have purchased have something in them that makes me itch... Awful..
I won't be buying premade anymore. Just love this dressing..
Yesterday I received the email with the "toffee cowboy' cookies, can't wait to make them for my "herd'.
Have a wonderful summer..
Dorothy
This looks so amazing!
How long will this recipe keep well in the fridge for?
Hi Roxanne, it's good for at least a week but it usually doesn't last that long.
Just made this dressing and it was delicious!
Thanks so much Fran!
This is terrific! I stirred some PB2 (powdered peanut butter) into a couple tablespoons of this dressing and tossed it with some cooked noodles for a delicious side dish. Lots of flavor!
Marvelous! Made this last night specifically for an Asian coleslaw.. What a great dressing. Used up the first batch on a classic green salad. Thanks for doing all the hard part. Thanks to the "Tester" too!
Thanks for letting us know Paul. We love this dressing too! 🙂
This dressing is SOOOOO amazing. I hate beets (taste like dirt) but with this dressing I can eat them. I made a kale, strawberry and avocado salad with this dressing on for lunch ... I wish I would have made a bigger salad! LOVE IT!
Thanks so much Andreina for taking the time to leave feedback. It sounds like you love the dressing as much as I do 🙂 That makes me happy!
This is the LBD of dressings isn't it?
Chinese chicken salad is one of my favorites so I'm trying your dressing next time I make it!
I love Asian flavors in salads and can't wait to try your dressing. I like the spiciness of it with the added shriracha.
This sure looks tasty. I love just about anything with sesame oil. I can see using this on so many dishes. Thanks for sharing.
Looks and sounds tasty!
I know I would become obsessed with this, Chris. It sounds incredible.
Not to make light of anyone's issues, but I truly think I am OCD at times so I can relate to your current sesame dressing obsession, Chris.
I love this, Chris. From the moment I saw it I was thinking that it would be an awesome marinade for fish. The combination of flavors sounds absolutely delicious. Thanks to you and Scott for testing this to perfection.
This looks and sounds fabulous Chris!! LOVE a good salad dressing!
This looks and reminds me so much of something they would serve in bible times.
I love salads and always look for different dressing recipes to try...this looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing, Chris.
Chris and Scott,
I came across your food blog from all the amazing images you put up on Pinterest. So glad I found you. The recipes here are great as are the photographs.
It was fun reading your bio and how the site name came to pass, thanks for sharing!
I have you on my blogroll now! BTW, this recipe is perfection, had it tonight!
I am obsessed with a great salad dressing and yours is just that! This is a MUST make! BTW - love your photos!
As soon as I get fresh poppy seeds tomorrow..this will be my little obsession too!
I am obsessed with this amazing dressing - on sliced European cucumbers for instance.
Sam.
Can't wait to try this. When I use a name brand dressing of that type I itch something awful... don't know what's in it that does that. Will make this over the weekend I think I will leave out the poppyseed. just doesn't seem to fit "Asia" gentre..
Sounds good! Fantastic pics Scott:@)
I am obsessed with Asian salads and this dressing sounds SO delish! Pinning NOW! 🙂
Well, I'm obsessed with these photos! Can't take my eyes off them.
Chris, this looks good enough to drink out of the jar!!
