Make homemade fig jam with dried figs! These 6 recipes are simple, delicious, and ideal for cheese boards or gifting year-round.

We love keeping our refrigerator, pantry, and freezer stocked with an assortment of fig jams. Having jars of this delicious condiment on hand makes pulling together an appetizer board SO easy, and honestly, I've met very few people who don't love it!

Just grab a couple of cheeses, a sleeve of crackers, a bowl of Maple-Glazed Roasted Almonds or Sweet and Spicy Glazed Pecans, some fresh fruit, and a jar of fig jam and… voilà! You've got a gourmet appetizer spread worthy of royalty.

For years, we stocked our shelves with store-bought fig jam, but those little jars are pricey, often $8 to $10 each, yikes! Then, a few years back, I discovered how simple it is to make my own. Not only is homemade fig jam far more economical, but it tastes even better than the fancy gourmet versions.

Who knew you could make fig jam from dried figs?

Who knew you could make fig jam from dried figs? That means you don't have to wait for fig season or spend a fortune on fresh fruit. Fabulous fig jam is just a bag of dried figs away! I was so excited when I discovered this trick that we've since created a whole collection of fig jam variations.

How do I use fig jam?

The best part? Fig jam is incredibly versatile. Beyond appetizer boards, there are countless ways to enjoy it. Here are just a few ideas to get you started:

  • Fig jam makes a fabulous grilled cheese. We love it on sourdough bread with Gouda or Fontina cheese.
  • It's great as a sandwich spread.
  • All of these fig jams make a wonderful base for pizza.
  • Use it as a filling for thumbprint cookies.
  • Use it as a glaze for pork roasts, pork tenderloin and grilled chicken.
  • Fig jam is delicious on toast, biscuits and scones.
  • Use it as a filling between cake layers.
  • Roast some veggies with olive oil and a spoonful of this balsamic fig jam... so good!
  • Make a fig salad dressing by combining ÂĽ cup jam, 2 tablespoons white balsamic vinegar, 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard, and â…“ cup extra-virgin olive oil in a jar with a tight-fitting lid. Add salt and pepper to taste, cover and shake, shake, shake. That's it!
  • Spoon it over oatmeal, then add a drizzle of cream or half-and-half.
  • Stir a spoonful into your morning yogurt. Top with crunchy granola.
  • Give it as a gift!

Yes, a jar of fig jam makes a wonderful gift for friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, teachers, hostesses... anyone! Because we enjoy giving delicious gifts from the kitchen, we've created free printable labels for each of these fig jams.

If you'd like to receive a PDF for any of the labels, just leave us a comment below that particular post. The only thing we ask is that you request each set of labels individually. We send out LOTS of labels and that's how we stay organized.
